Studio34: thirtySomething
dancers put on thier boogie shoes for new show.
Following the success of their 2004 Fringe Festival preview
show, "Dancers with Day Jobs," Halifax's thirtySomething
Dance Co-op (tSdc) is excited to annouce that its first independent
show will debut Saturday, February 12th at the Alderney Theatre
at the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal.
The show, Studio 34, promises to deliver more of what the
tSdc is becoming known for - an appealing mix of fun, jazzy dance
numbers imbued with a liberal sprinkling of humour that leave audiences
smiling and tapping their toes.
And who can resist a disco theme? Studio 34 will transform
the Alderney Theatre into an exclusive hotspot where those who can,
dance. A show ticket takes you inside the funkiest dance club in
town, full of outrageous personalities who just love to strut their
stuff, all undercut by a relentless beat that can't be ignored.
Audience members are even invited to compete for "best disco
duds" prizes!
And that's not all. Studio 34 will also serve up plenty
of Vegas-style Rat Packin' jazz, funk, Latin, modern, tap, and a
little 60s-inspired dirty dancing! New works by Halifax choreographers
Kym Butler and Todd Durling will premier at the show, along with
several new pieces created by tSdc co-op members.
"We dance because we love to," says founding
member Kate Hayter-Reid. "It's that simple. We aren't professionals,
and we don't apologize for that. But audiences seem to like us for
who we are - grown-ups who love hamming it up on stage with pretty
good rhythm.
thirtySomething Dance Co-op celebrates the varied abilities
and perspectives that its 15 members bring to dance. Two things
every performer has in common are that dance is a part-time hobby
and a full-blown passion.
Studio 34 show times are 3 pm and 8 pm on Saturday, February
12th, 2005 at the Alderney Landing Theatre (461-4689). Tickets are
now on sale at the Alderney Landing Theatre box office. Matinee
tickets are $13 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors,
evening performance tickets are $16 and $13. |
