April 24, 2007ThirtySomething Dance goes waaaaay off broadway!
(Halifax, N.S.) -- The Neptune Studio Theatre in Halifax will be
the stage for thirtySomething Dance Co-op’s third independent
show. The 2007 show, titled “Way Off Broadway,"
is inspired by the intimacy of small-house theatre. Top hats, tailfeathers,
sequins, and fringed dresses will conjure a few familiar broadway
riffs, along with some tap, hip hop, modern and contemporary jazz,
all performed with tsdc’s signature brand of comedy, characters,
and great dancing. There's even a sweet little soft-shoe done
in sparky swimfins that's worth the price of admission alone,
along with some marvellously mordant looks at human conditions like
insomnia, our obsession with shoes, love, and of course, a big wow
finish!
Guest choreographers for the 2007 show include Veronique McKenzie,
Andrea Leigh Smith, Jessica Sayde, and Natalie Brucker from PushPull
Dance in Toronto. Each have created new works that will premier
at the May show. New works by Tsdc members will also be performed,
along with a few audience favorites from past shows. From naughty
“sway” to the Charleston, from sultry jazz to a broadway
style “Big Finish” finale, thirtySomething’s
“Way Off” show is entertainment for the whole family
not to be missed!
The show opens on Friday, May 4th at 8pm and will be performed two
more times on Saturday, May 5th at 3pm and 8pm at the Neptune Studio
Theatre, 1593 Argyle Street, Halifax. Tickets for the evening
shows are $17 for adults, $14 for students/seniors. The matinee
performance is $15 for adults, $12 for students/seniors and are available
at the door.
Thirty Something Dance Co-Operative was founded to provide opportunities
to develop and showcase the abilities of its adult dancers who have
a passion for dance. We come from all walks of life together
to share the joy of being able to move, great music and to continue
to challenge ourselves and mainly, have a large measure of fun.
